Before
There had been no effective inspection method because the dam cannot be easily touched or approached.
After
Visible images were taken from 70m away from this gravity concrete dam with a height of 42m and a bank top length of 138m by using a telephoto lens. Based on the images, cracks of 0.2mm or longer could be automatically detected by using Kuraves-Actis and a damage distribution map was created.
Cracks of 0.12mm width or more could be detected with an accuracy of ±0.1mm. Even in the case of a dam structure that cannot be easily approached, details of cracks could be detected by taking photos from a distance. This method was confirmed to be effective.
